This paper discusses the integration of principles of restorative justice into teen courts. The paper is based on a focus group convened in March 2000 by the American Probation and Parole Association. Godwin outlines the differing goals adopted by teen courts and compares such philosophies to what the principles of restorative justice demands. Godwin recognizes that moving teen courts towards a more restorative justice approach is a continuing process but provides concrete examples and suggestions for integrating the two methodologies – from ways to rethink the role of victims and communities within the teen court procedures to specific community service project ideas that teen courts can plan which incorporate the principles of restorative justice.
