Something is Wrong: Exploring the Roots of Youth Violence Curriculum (Document)

Project NIA, the Chicago Freedom School and Teachers for Social Justice have partnered along with other volunteers to develop a curriculum guide in order to contribute to the ongoing efforts by young people and their adult allies to analyze the root causes of youth violence and to create local solutions.

The Youth Justice Coalition has developed a Campaign Action Planning tool to help develop organizing campaigns. The campaign action plan tool includes questions regarding identifying an issue to organize around, identifying campaign goals, allies, tactics, and resources.

The Youth Justice Coalition of Los Angeles has developed a description for community intervention workers and peacebuilders who they believe should play a role in communities most impacted by violence.

The Youth Justice Coalition developed a resource that provides a comparison between community intervention workers and law enforcement officers. The comparison includes each individual's perception of Los Angeles, their job duties and the cost to taxpayers.

The organization Critical Resistance has collected various resources availalbe to communities for addressing harm, accountability and healing. The resources include toolkits, reports, zines, articles and other media.

Gender Justice Terms and Definitions (Document)

Here you will find a one pager with Gender Justice Terms and Definitions compiled by DSC members S.O.U.L. Sisters Leadership Collective and Power U Center for Social Change. The terms include definitions for gender identity, transgender, and gender justice amongst others.

Institutional Bullying- Understanding Beyond Peer-Bullying Workshop (Document)

Our member Desis Rising Up and Moving (DRUM) has developed a workshop on institutional bullying and undertanding bullying beyond peer to peer bullying. The workshop includes role play exercises, examining what bullying is and introduces participants to the concept of peer counseling.

Peacebuilder Code of Conduct (Document)

The Youth Justice Coalition has developed a code of conduct for community peacebuiliders working at public events or actions. The code of conduct includes that the role of a peacebuilder is to protect the people and uplift the community by providing best practices and de-escalation techniques if conflict arises. 

School to Prison Pipeline Game (Document)

The "school-to-prison pipeline" describes an alarming trend where public elementary, middle and high schools are pushing youth out of classrooms and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems.

Youth Justice Coalition Dismantling School to Jail Track (2013) (Document)

Here you will find a presentation by the Youth Justice Coalition on dismantling the school-to-jail track in Los Angeles. This resource provides suggestions for reallocating funds from law enforcement to hiring peacebuilders, community intervention workers and investing in youth centers.  

Youth Organizing Movement Building Definitions (Document)

The Youth Justice Coalition has created an M is for Movement Building chart with definitions to help guide an organizing campaign. This tool includes definitions for organizing tactics, guiding principles and leadership development amongst others.

Zero Tolerance Game of Life (Document)

The Student Advocacy Center of Michigan has developed a Zero Tolerance Game of Life to demonstrate the impact of zero tolerance discipline policies in schools. The interactive game serves as a tool that can educate community members, legislators and advocates on the impact of school pushout.

Youth Camera Action Project (2007) (Document)

The New York Civil Liberties Union working together with youth from community organizations produced three short documentaries on student experiences with the over-policing of New York City schools. Watch the videos on-line:

The Schoolhouse to Jailhouse action kit is aimed at helping advocates organize campaigns against the over use of zero tolerance school discipline and the growing reliance on police and juvenile courts as disciplinarians.
