Examples of Policies from Member Campaigns

Here you will find examples of positive school climate policies passed by a variety of school districts from across the country. Dignity in Schools Campaign member led campaigns led to the passage of these policies that include Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) to improve school climate. 


Los Angeles School Climate Bill of Rights (Document)

On May 14, 2013 the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) passed a resolution adopting a School Climate Bill of Rights. The resolution states that LAUSD understands that student achievement begins with keeping students in a safe classroom and healthy environment conducive to learning.

MOU Between SFPD and SFUSD (Document)

Here is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). DSC member organizations Coleman Advocates and Public Counsel, along with other San Francisco allies succefully had the MOU passed in February 2014. 

Paterson Resolution on Moratorium on Out of School Suspensions (Document)

In October 2013 the Paterson, NJ Public School System passed a resolution to approve confirmation of the School Board’s priority in keeping students in classrooms in safe and healthy environments and that the State District Superintendent shall enforce the District’s Student Code of Conduct.

San Francisco Safe and Supportive Schools Resolution (Document)

San Francisco Unified School District passed the Safe and Supportive Schools Resolution in February 2014. You can find the Resolution here.
