The promise of education to nurture the possibilities of justice and liberation seems lost in all the talk of high stakes testing and charter schools. Hector Calderon, a former youth organizer and popular educator who now leads El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice, a public high school in Williamsburg, will share the challenges and possibilities for this vision in public education in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day platform. Sunday Platforms are a long-standing tradition within Ethical Culture to bring light and heat to matters of ethical concern in a formal setting.
