DSC members Portland Parent Union and Racial Justice Now! both won important victories in their campaigns for the Solutions Not Suspensions Moratorium on Out-of-School Suspensions this June.
Yesterday, Portland Parent Union (PPU) officially launched a campaign calling on Portland Public Schools to declare a moratorium on out-of-school suspensions. After years of organizing to change exclusionary discipline policies, PPU has struggled to get a public response from the School Board.

Roundtables, panels and dialogues that examine restorative justice and school pushout in Oregon schools
DSC member organization Portland Parent Union successfully pushed for the passage of a bill to reform school discipline and roll back 'zero-tolerance' policies in Oregon. On May 21, 2013, the Oregon legislature passed HB 2192-B, removing mandatory expulsion requirements from the state's school discipline statute. The new legislation will go into effect in July 2014.
