Tuesday, October 4

An alliance of more than 30 organizations including Advocates for Children & Youth, Maryland Education Coalition, Community Law In Action, and individuals will lead a march calling for more investment in schools, housing, vocational and recreational centers, and youth jobs, and an end to funding for a proposed jail for youth charged as adults in Baltimore. The march, Recharge Schools, Rethink the Baltimore Youth Jail, will begin at 5:00p.m. at the Baltimore City Detention Center (an adult jail where about 90 youth are held as they await their trials), pass by the site of the proposed new youth jail, and end with a rally at National Academy Foundation High School.

The Recharge Schools, Rethink the Baltimore Youth Jail march is intended to build public support for an action plan created by the alliance that will keep Baltimore safe and help the city’s young people succeed.  This march is one of several events that will occur across the country in observance of National Youth Justice Awareness Month.
