COFI, POWER-PAC (Parents Organized to Win, Educate and Renew—Policy Action Council), and WTLU (West Town Leadership United) will host a bilingual Parent-to-Parent training on restorative justice in Chicago Public Schools. Participants will receive a free copy of POWER-PAC’s Parent-to-Parent Guide on Restorative Justice in the Chicago Public Schools. Refreshments, childcare and transportation will be provided. COFI and POWER-PAC will hold a press conference to promote POWER-PAC’s restorative justice work at Wells High School and call on Chicago Public Schools to make a true commitment to reducing school pushout. The press conference will feature testimony from POWER-PAC parent leaders, Wells High School’s principal, and a student who has benefited from the restorative justice program.

Saturday, October 8th
Generation Y will host a “Break the Chains Campaign Day of Action Speak Out” that will include a peace circle putting restorative justice into practice as an alternative to criminalizing discipline practices, zero tolerance, arrest, and push out. Youth will also have the opportunity to give testimonies as part of the open mic.
