Lambda Legal’s Southern Regional Office
will host “South STAR: Safe Schools Convening of the South,” a one-day convening of youth and adult leaders from the Southeast region to discuss and strategize around the intersections of the safe schools movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students, and the school to prison pipeline phenomena that disproportionately affects students of color.  Lunch and snacks will be provided. Advocates for Children’s Services
(a project of Legal Aid of North Carolina) and the UNC School of Law Juvenile Justice Clinic will present a workshop titled “Building Successful and Inclusive Campaigns” at South STAR: Safe Schools Convening of the South. The workshop will focus on developing concrete strategies for building successful community-based campaigns to make schools safer without fueling the school to prison pipeline and develop mechanisms for ensuring that LGBTQ youth feel included and valued in all organizing campaigns.
